OUR STORY
Our building has been welcoming people through its doors since around 1821. Over the years it has lived many lives, from The Greyhound, to Tateshalion, Tap & Barrel and Lockwood. A lot of history, a lot of memories and plenty of stories along the way.
Today, it’s home to Cavallo.
We are a family-run, independent business, proudly from Pontefract and deeply rooted in the local community. When we took on the building, we invested heavily not just in restoring it, but in reimagining what it could be. We felt Pontefract was missing somewhere special. A place to enjoy great food made with fresh ingredients, a proper drink at the bar and an atmosphere that feels relaxed, warm and a little bit special.
Cavallo was created to be exactly that.
The support from the community has been overwhelming, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors, recommended us, celebrated with us and supported us from the start. We’re here to stay, and we hope Cavallo becomes part of Pontefract for generations to come.

“We wanted to create somewhere beautiful for the town, somewhere people can enjoy good food and a good drink.”
